Hi Kent,
I got my first bike in 1974 when I was 16. A 50cc.
Then a Honda CB200. In in 1977, a Honda 400 Four - a great bike
Then a Honda CB 750 F1. Big and wobbly but good.
By 1980 I had a Gold Wing.
The Wing died in an accident with a car - and nearly me too.
I have had many other bikes - The best being a Suzuki GS550. I toured Europe on this in the 80's. It would cruise at 80 to 100 mph with no trouble on the mad French roads. All French drivers drive as if the Devil were chasing them. And every 100 yards, there a massive set of skid marks on the roads.
The most unreliable bike was a Triumph 650 Thunderbird.
The scariest was a Suzuki T350 Rebel.
The most annoying was a Suzuki GSX-R 1100. This bike was rediculously fast. I went everywhere at over 100 mph, and that was hardly trying for the bike. And every few bends, I would catch someone up and have to overtake again. It was annoying and agrovating. It was a 100mpg traffic jam. It was so unsatisfying. Except on the Isle of Man.....
I inherited the Savage (a 1993 model) about 5 months ago. A cruiser is the last sort of bike I would ever consider riding, but it's grown on me. Now I love it. It's so relaxing. And now it's goy Metzler tyres on, it takes the bends well, even in the wet.
I have also got a Honda CBX250RS, a single cylinder sports bike that has to be revved to 10,000 through the gears. The Savage is no more powerful, but has more than twice the torque that's developed at lots lower revs.
The Honda is perfect for going fast on the twisty English country lanes where I live.
I also like the looks of the Kawasaki W650.
Happy Savage Riding.
